2025 Fantasy Outlook
Lopez was waived by the Giants in the first week of the 2024 season, but he was promptly picked up by the Marlins and assigned to Triple-A Jacksonville. He was called up by mid-April, initially serving in reserve capacity. Lopez hit his way into the starting lineup, which is where he stayed, other than a short IL stint for lower back inflammation. Lopez parlayed a 17.3 percent strikeout rate and a 53.6 percent groundball clip into a .270 batting average. He doesn't hit the ball hard, but 86th percentile sprint speed helped Lopez log an infield hit rate twice the league average and swipe 20 bases. He's a plus defender at second base and can play all around the infield and outfield. He'll be given a chance to be the regular second baseman but also can handle a utility role. Batting average and steals provide a floor, but unless he's playing every day, Lopez has limited fantasy allure. Read Past Outlooks

Slugs homer in return
Lopez went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Sunday's 5-1 victory over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old made his first appearance since May 2 after being activated from the injured list for an ankle injury before the contest. Lopez blasted a 401-foot home run off Tampa Bay starter Shane Baz in the fourth inning to give Miami a 3-1 lead. Lopez is now slashing .230/.293/.354 with three homers and steals apiece through 123 plate appearances. He appears set to re-establish his role as the Marlins' everyday second baseman.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Lopez saw just 10 plate appearances in the majors in 2023 as an oblique strain forced him onto the 60-day injured list in July, with the majority of his playing time coming across 346 plate appearances at Triple-A Buffalo. Lopez slashed .258/.313/.343 in Triple-A before the injury shortened his season. Capable of playing both middle infield roles as well as across the outfield, Lopez's path to major league playing time is pretty muddy. The signing of Isiah Kiner-Falefa knocks Lopez down the utility man depth chart for the Blue Jays as he'll likely compete with Ernie Clement for a bench role in 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

On taxi squad
Lopez joined the Blue Jays as a member of the taxi squad Sunday and could be added to the active roster if Santiago Espinal's hamstring injury requires a trip to the injured list, reports Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca.
ANALYSIS
Lopez was briefly on the taxi squad earlier this season but has yet to see major-league action in 2023, and he's struggled at the plate for Triple-A Buffalo with a .533 OPS in 36 games. The 24-year-old went 6-for-9 with three RBI during his brief stint with the big club last year. Toronto's group of position players are in good health beyond Espinal, so Lopez would likely fill a bench role if called up.
