Mike Vasil

Mike Vasil

25-Year-Old PitcherRP
Chicago White Sox
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Vasil couldn't break through as a starting pitcher the past couple seasons while working at Triple-A as a member of the Mets, most recently logging a 6.04 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 109:52 K:BB in 134 innings over 29 appearances for Triple-A Syracuse. The Phillies took him in the Rule 5 draft and then flipped him to the Rays for cash. Vasil will probably work as a lower-leverage reliever initially in the majors if he is not returned to the Mets. It will be worth tracking if the Rays can unlock something with the former prospect of note via a changed role and/or pitch mix. Read Past Outlooks
Signed a one-year contract with the Rays in March of 2025. Traded to the White Sox in March of 2025.
Picks up fourth save
PChicago White Sox
September 7, 2025
Vasil pitched a clean inning with one strikeout to collect the save in Sunday's 6-4 win at Detroit.
Analysis
Just when it looked like Jordan Leasure was cementing the White Sox's closer role, manager Will Venable threw a wrench into everything Sunday. Leasure pitched the eighth against the heart of the Tigers order (Riley Greene, Spencer Torkelson, Wenceel Perez and Dillon Dingler), leaving the ninth for Vasil. The 25-year-old figures to continue garnering occasional save opportunities, as it looks like Leasure is being used in a high-leverage role. Vasil now sports a solid 2.54 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 74:46 K:BB across 92 total frames.

Stat Review
How does Mike Vasil compare to other relievers?
This section compares his stats with all relief pitcher seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 30 innings)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity, Barrels/BBE %, Balls Hit 95+ MPH %, and Spin Rate are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 30 IP). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.
  • K/BB

2024 Fantasy Outlook
A 6-foot-5 righty with a bulldog mentality, Vasil gets the most of his four-pitch mix and logged 124 innings across Double-A and Triple-A. He had a sparkling 24.9 K-BB% and 0.84 WHIP in 10 starts at Double-A and then struggled with the automated balls and strikes system at Triple-A to the tune of a 13.2 K-BB% and 1.48 WHIP. His four-seamer sits at 93 mph and can touch as high as 97 mph, while his 86-mph slider is his lone true plus offering. He had a 21 percent swinging-strike rate on the pitch at Triple-A, and he also had some success with his average changeup. Vasil's curveball is a fringe-average pitch. Poised to make his big-league debut sometime this season, Vasil will benefit from spacious Citi Field. He projects as a No. 4 or No. 5 starter who eats innings, but Vasil could exceed that projection with improved command or if his changeup jumps a grade.
