Gets minors deal from Mets
3BNew York Mets  AAA
April 30, 2024
The Mets signed Brosseau to a minor-league contract Friday, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brosseau was released by the Royals last week after hitting only .107/.212/.143 across 33 plate appearances at Triple-A Omaha. The 30-year-old has a career .790 OPS against left-handed pitching at the major-league level, although that number dropped to just .571 in 2023. Brosseau will give the Mets experienced infield depth.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2021
2020
Brosseau started just five games against right-handers last season, but he was in the lineup 39 times against southpaws, and he slotted into nearly every spot in the batting order. Outside of the batting average column his splits were pretty similar against pitchers of either variety, but he has generally fared better against lefties, against who he owns an .823 career OPS. Brosseau is not going to play enough in 2023 to be a steady contributor in fantasy leagues, but he did enough last season -- particularly as a pinch hitter -- to retain a roster spot with the Brewers.
Brosseau was a fun little story in 2020. He came into the season with an impressive minor-league hitting track record, especially for someone who was an undrafted free-agent signee. He had mostly settled into a nondescript, short-side platoon role for the club until Aroldis Chapman threw 101 over his head in a September game and started a kerfuffle. Brosseau came back the next night and homered in his first at-bat, hit another one in that same game and later got revenge against Chapman in the ALDS. He can play a few spots around the diamond but is unlikely to fill in a full-time role, especially on this team. While he has hit well in the minors, his swing and spray chart tilt toward someone that opposing teams will shift hard against, thus reducing his chances to hit for average. The infield versatility on draft day is nice in AL-only formats, but there's nothing more here hiding in the weeds.
Brosseau ascended quickly through Tampa Bay's system, going from High-A ball to the majors in only two years. He has wielded an effective bat at every minor-league level and earned his callup to Tampa Bay last season after slashing .304/.394/.567 with 16 home runs in 315 plate appearences with Triple-A Durham. Brosseau continued to hit with the big club, batting .322 over his first month and finishing with a .273 average and .329 wOBA. He showed some punch at the plate to boot, tallying six home runs and seven doubles en route to a .189 ISO. Brosseau came to the Rays as a free agent after going undrafted in 2016, but he has taken the opportunity and run with it, hitting over .300 in all but one of his minor-league campaigns. He isn't expected to be an everyday player in 2020, but with his steady bat and ability to field multiple positions, Brosseau could fill an important utility role for the Rays.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could begin season in minors
3BMilwaukee Brewers  AAA
February 12, 2023
Adam McCalvy of MLB.com predicts Brosseau won't make the Brewers' Opening Day roster.
ANALYSIS
Milwaukee hasn't made any significant offseason additions to its group of position players, but the smaller acquisitions of Brian Anderson, Abraham Toro and Owen Miller could make Brosseau the odd man out for a spot on the Opening Day roster. Brosseau carved out a role against left-handed pitching in 2022 and posted a .762 OPS in 160 plate appearances, but he may need to perform better against righties this season to maintain a roster spot.
