2025 Fantasy Outlook
After making 26 multi-inning appearances in 2023, Strahm pitched in a more conventional high-leverage role for the Phillies last season. Only seven of the southpaw's career-high 66 appearances were multi-inning affairs, but pitching in shorter stints certainly benefitted the 33-year-old. Strahm ripped off a 21-game scoreless streak early in the season en route to his first All-Star team before closing out the campaign with some of the top marks among relief pitchers, including a 1.87 ERA (18th), 2.37 SIERA (12th), 0.75 WHIP (T-6th) and 28.7 K-BB percentage (11th). As the top lefty arm out of Philadelphia's bullpen, Strahm may be afforded more save chances in 2025 than he has received in the past, especially if Jordan Romano (elbow) does not return to health. Won't pitch due to fingernail issue
Strahm (shoulder) will not make a scheduled Grapefruit League appearance Monday versus the Rays due to left middle fingernail irritation, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The issue is not believed to be serious, and Strahm remains on track to be ready for the Phillies' season opener Thursday versus the Nationals. The left-handed reliever has made just two Grapefruit League appearances this spring due to a shoulder impingement that's caused inflammation, but he's been throwing lately without any problems with the shoulder.

Strahm signed a two-year, $15 million deal with Philadelphia last offseason and the team announced during spring training their intent to stretch him out as a multi-inning reliever. A short time later, he entered the starting rotation, but his stay was short-lived as he was only covering for an injured starter. The southpaw made 10 starts across 56 appearances, and while some were as an opener, his flexibility in a hybrid role was a huge reason the Phillies bullpen improved last season. Strahm struck out 108 batters over 87.2 innings and compiled nine wins, two saves and 11 holds alongside excellent ratios. He's unlikely to close many games for Philadelphia in 2024, but a similar role and output to last season would provide value to fantasy managers.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Could see high-leverage work
According to Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia, Strahm could see more high-leverage work after Jose Alvarado was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with left elbow inflammation.
ANALYSIS
Strahm was shifted from the rotation to the bullpen just last week and picked up a multi-inning save Sunday when the Phillies tacked on more runs late, but he didn't seem likely to see consistent late-inning chances prior to Alvarado's injury. Strahm is still transitioning back to relief work and isn't expected to pitch on back-to-back days, at least for now. The left-hander shouldn't be expected to see many save chances with Craig Kimbrel and Gregory Soto expected to split closer duties with Alvarado out.
