2025 Fantasy Outlook
Allen teased enough in his rookie season for us to be cautiously optimistic the Guardians would do their magic, turning another middling hurler into a solid major league pitcher. There's still time, but Allen took a major step back in his sophomore year, fanning fewer and walking more while posting the highest home run rate of any pitcher hurling at least 90 innings. Making matters worse is he wasn't any better with Triple-A Columbus, surrendering 12 homers in only 48.2 stanzas. Allen is armed with four pitches featuring a 91-mph fastball he throws about half of the time. He needs better secondaries considering his heater generated swinging strikes at a low 6.6 percent clip while yielding half of his homers. Allen made 20 starts for the Guardians last season, but he'll be hard-pressed to match that this season unless he figures out a way to miss more bats and keep the ball in the yard. Allen began the season with Triple-A Columbus, posting a 1.26 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in three starts, spanning 14.1 innings. Injuries in the Guardians rotation paved the way for Allen's debut in late April. He stayed in the big-league rotation for a dozen starts, recording a 3.47 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with 63 strikeouts in 66 stanzas. However, he was in a rut and was demoted back to the Clippers. Allen returned in mid-July, registering a 4.14 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with 56 punch outs across 63 innings. Allen's final 3.81 ERA seems impressive, but his 1.40 WHIP is more in line with the higher ERA estimators. Some of the elevated WHIP is from a high .324 BABIP, but he also logged an above average 8.9 percent walk rate. Allen needs to improve control since he averages only 91.4 mph on his four-seam fastball. Allen's splitter is his strikeout pitch. He also throws a cutter and slider. The Guardians are adept at fine tuning a repertoire to get the most out of their hurlers, so Allen is likely to grow into a mid-rotation innings eater. For now, he's best utilized in a streaming capacity.

Chance to start Tuesday?
Cleveland has yet to announce a starting pitcher for Tuesday's game at Pittsburgh, according to Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal, and Allen should be a candidate to take the mound.
Analysis
The Guardians have mapped out their rotation for the first four games of the second half but have yet to decide on their fifth starter for Tuesday's contest. Allen was sent to Triple-A Columbus after his outing in Kansas City on June 28, when he allowed three hits and two walks over 3.2 scoreless frames. The left-hander has a 3.47 ERA through his first 12 big-league starts, though he's put a lot of men on base with a 1.44 WHIP.
