2025 Fantasy Outlook
Bradish began 2024 on the injured list with elbow issues but was able to make his season debut in early May, though his campaign was short-lived as he made just eight starts before undergoing Tommy John surgery with an internal brace in June. The right-hander pitched well when available with a 2.75 ERA over 39.1 innings, but he'll be sidelined until at least the second half, and he may not pitch at all in 2025. Bradish started up his throwing program in December, but it'll likely be awhile before a more specific recovery timeline comes into focus. Read Past Outlooks

Bradish (elbow) began a throwing program Wednesday, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's the first time Bradish has played catch since he underwent Tommy John surgery with an internal brace in mid-June. The Orioles expect the right-hander to be ready to rejoin their rotation around midseason, although that's a rough timetable given how many hurdles he must clear.

Stat Review
How does Kyle Bradish compare to other starting pitchers?
This section compares his stats with all starting pitcher seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 120 innings)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity, Barrels/BBE %, Balls Hit 95+ MPH %, and Spin Rate are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 120 IP). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.
  • K/BB
    Strikeout to walk ratio.
  • K/9
    Average strikeouts per nine innings.
  • BB/9
    Average walks per nine innings.
  • HR/9
Average home runs allowed per nine innings.
  • Fastball
    Average fastball velocity.
  • ERA
Earned run average. The average earned runs allowed per nine innings.

Walks plus hits per inning pitched.
  • BABIP
Batting average on balls in play. Measures how many balls in play against a pitcher go for hits.
  • GB/FB
Groundball to flyball ratio. The higher the number, the more likely a pitcher is to induce groundballs.
  • Left On Base
The percentage of base runners that a pitcher strands on base over the course of a season.
  • Exit Velocity
The speed of the baseball as it comes off the bat, immediately after a batter makes contact.
  • Barrels/BBE
The percentage of batted ball events resulting in a Barrel. A Barrel is a batted ball with similar exit velocity and launch angle to past ones that led to a minimum .500 batting average and 1.500 slugging percentage.
  • Spin Rate
Spin Rate is the rate of spin on a baseball after it is released. It is measured in revolutions per minute (rpm).
  • Balls Hit 95+ MPH
The percentage of batted balls hit that met or exceeded the 95 MPH threshold.
  • Swinging Strike

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
2022
The manner in which Bradish finished 2022 teased an impending breakout, but no one expected the fourth-lowest ERA among qualifiers. Granted, he benefited from a .270 BABIP and 79.1% left-on-base mark, but Bradish's 18.5 K-BB% was 18th among qualified starters. The major difference from the previous season was Bradish threw fewer four-seamers while upping sinker usage as well as adding velocity and spin to his curveball. The cumulative effects generated more grounders and swinging strikes. However, his ascent to the top of the Baltimore rotation suffered a setback in February when it was reported that Bradish had been diagnosed with a sprained UCL in his right elbow. While the plan is to go the rest-and-rehab route, the threat of Tommy John surgery will hang in the air like a dark cloud. The Orioles are already saying that he will miss the start of the season, though Bradish is expected to start a throwing program relatively early on in camp.
Bradish was the exact oppostive of everything we would expect from a righty pitcher in Baltimore in 2022. He had a 5.00 ERA and a .288/.348/.479 triple-slash at Camden Yards and a 4.77 ERA with a .239/.331/.349 triple-slash pitching anywhere else. Doubling down on the confusion was a .280/.347/.456 against righties and a .235/.326/.346 against lefties despite a repertoire that portends the exact opposite situation. He had a disastrous first half, but after returning to the big leagues, he posted a 3.28 ERA and twice shut down the World Champion Astros over 8 innings while scattering 2 hits with 16 strikeouts. The minor league numbers have been dominant, but it wasn't until that first outing against Houston in late August that it finally came together at the big league level. The final second half numbers would have been even better if not for a disastrous outing against Boston at the end of September. An interesting note: the names of similar pitches to Bradish based on velocity and movement on StatCast includes names like Corbin Burnes, Zac Gallen, and Drew Rasmussen. The last name on that list is a very interesting comp given the step forward Rasmussen took in 2022 despite similar challenges in developing an effective changeup.
Bradish was added to the Orioles' 40-man roster in the offseason and is poised to make his big-league debut in late-April against the Red Sox. Through three starts at Triple-A, he cut his walk rate to 5.3 percent - a significant improvement from the 10.3 percent rate he logged in 86.2 innings at Double-A a season ago. He also sports a career-best 50 percent groundball rate. Bradish has a mid-90s fastball, a power mid-80s slider and a low-80s curveball that he uses to neutralize left-handed batters. He is a legitimate prospect who may have improved his skills this past offseason and could find success as a rookie, especially now that Oriole Park at Camden Yards is playing like a pitcher's park.

Lining up to start Thursday?
PBaltimore Orioles
April 28, 2024
Bradish, who is on the injured list with an elbow sprain, could be reinstated to make his season debut Thursday against the Yankees, per Jake Rill of MLB.com.
ANALYSIS
The Orioles have Grayson Rodriguez, Dean Kremer and Corbin Burnes penciled in for the first three games of the series, leaving the door open for Bradish to take the hill Thursday. Manager Brandon Hyde said Saturday that the right-hander would join the rotation this week, so it's also possible he pitches next weekend in Cincinnati. Bradish established himself as a key rotation piece for Baltimore last season with a 2.83 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 168:44 K:BB over 168.2 innings.
