Rest-of-Season Projections
Earns camp invite
Hoese was invited to join the Dodgers' major-league camp Tuesday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hoese will get to work out with the team's big-league coaching staff for a few weeks but is unlikely to join them on a permanent basis this season. The 25th overall pick in 2019, Hoese projects to hit for at least a decent amount of both average and power, but he's only played 41 games as a professional due to last year's canceled minor-league campaign.

Hoese was a divisive draft prospect, as he broke out in a big way as a junior at Tulane but was old for his class and didn't perform like a potential first-round pick in prior seasons. After the Dodgers selected him with the No. 25 overall pick in 2019, Hoese had a strong pro debut, most notably logging a 13.6 K% in 22 games at Low-A. He reportedly impressed at the alternate site but underwhelmed during the fall instructional league, so org. and class mate Michael Busch has passed him in the team's bat-first prospect hierarchy. Now 23 and turning 24 in July, Hoese is entering a bit of a prove-it year. He will be sent to an age-appropriate level (likely Double-A) with the hope that he forces another promotion before season's end. He will need to develop a plus hit tool, which remains possible, and could unlock 25-homer power. Given his age, his stock is down a bit due to reports from instructs.
