2025 Fantasy Outlook
Ginkel recorded five saves as Arizona's closer when Paul Sewald began the 2024 season on the injured list. When Sewald returned, Ginkel was relegated to setup duties for the remainder of the campaign, but the right-hander established new career-highs in games played (72), innings (70), strikeouts (77) and holds (18). His 5.2 percent walk rate was also the best of his career and a 3.9 percentage point improvement over 2023. Perhaps most impressively, Ginkel pitched through a fractured leg across the final four months of the season after getting hit by a comebacker in early June. He never went on the injured list and his numbers suggest he wasn't hindered by any discomfort, as he maintained a 2.81 ERA and 57:10 K:BB over 48 innings after the incident. Ginkel's leg should fully heal with rest this offseason, but check his status this spring if your speculating on him for ancillary saves late in drafts. Read Past Outlooks

Officially demoted to Triple-A
The Diamondbacks optioned Ginkel to Triple-A Reno on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Ginkel has struggled out of the bullpen since returning from the injured list in late April. He has a 12.60 ERA and 2.10 WHIP across 10 innings this season, and those numbers are inflated by two outings in which he gave up a combined 10 earned runs. Ginkel will head to the minors to regain his form on the mound while Jeff Brigham comes up from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2021
2020
Ginkel had his finest season to date in 2023, registering career-highs across multiple categories, including games played (60), innings pitched (65.1) and strikeouts (70). He was Arizona's best reliever, posting a 2.48 ERA (20th among qualified relievers) and 0.98 WHIP (12th) while racking up 9 wins, 8 holds and 4 saves as the D'Backs' setup man. The 29-year-old induced ground balls at a career-high 50.3% clip and kept the ball inside the park with only 3 home runs allowed (0.4 HR/9) all season. Ginkel's 9.1% walk percentage was a blemish that has remained constant throughout his career, thus some ratio regression should be expected, but his 5th-year breakout season puts him in line to pitch important innings again in 2024.
