2026 Fantasy Outlook
Culpepper was drafted 21st overall in 2024 out of Kansas State as a high floor prospect thanks to a steady hit tool and the ability to provide defensive value on the left side of the infield. He showed a higher ceiling than expected in 2025, albeit while being old for his levels. He split his age-22 season evenly across High-A and Double-A, slashing .289/.375/.469 with 20 home runs, 25 steals, a 9.7 percent walk rate and a 17.4 percent strikeout rate in 113 games. He is an aggressive hitter who struggles to get the ball in the air consistently (50 percent groundball rate), and while he went 25-for-29 on the bases last year, Culpepper is just an average runner. He has a big arm, but his lack of high-end athleticism and plus speed may force a move to third or second base eventually, although Culpepper could be deemed an upgrade at shortstop over Brooks Lee sometime this summer. Culpepper has a chance to be an everyday player, but his 25/20 season oversells his short and long term upside. Read Past Outlooks
Moves up to Double-A
The Twins promoted Culpepper from High-A Cedar Rapids to Double-A Wichita on Friday.
Analysis
The 21st overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft has shown improved power and speed in his second professional season along with solid walk (19.8 percent) and strikeout (16.6 percent) rates. Though the Twins have been developing Culpepper as a shortstop thus far, he could end up moving off the position once he's closer to reaching the majors since Carlos Correa is under contract through at least 2028.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
The 21st overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft has a strong hit tool, but he lacks impactful power or speed. Culpepper hit .242/.330/.394 with three home runs between Low-A and High-A last season in just 26 games after signing with the Twins. The righty-hitting infielder has hit for a very high average in short stints with Team USA and in multiple college postseason runs. He slashed .328/.419/.574 with 11 home runs and 17 steals in 61 games this spring for Kansas State. Culpepper has a flat swing and had zero home runs with three doubles in 17 Cape Cod League games last summer and hit 26 homers in 152 games for KSU. His stolen-base totals are the product of opportunistic reads more than pure speed, as he is just a 50-grade runner. He played mostly shortstop in his first professional season. Third base would be his most obvious home if not for his lack of power, and he may eventually move around the diamond as needed in a super-utility role.
