2025 Fantasy Outlook
Suarez logged exactly as many innings (52.1) in Triple-A as in the majors last year, and he registered an ERA over 6.00 along with a WHIP of precisely 1.61 at both stops. Though he averaged over a strikeout per inning, the southpaw was pounded when batters made contact, as the 47.7% hard-hit rate against him ranked in the second percentile leaguewide. During his time with the big club last year, Suarez was mostly used as a reliever, though he started in his final two appearances and fared better, allowing three earned runs and posting a 10:4 K:BB over 10 innings. Perhaps that's an indication that he's best suited for work as a starter -- Suarez had stretches of success in that role earlier in his career -- but there's unlikely to be room for him in Los Angeles' rotation. Instead, he's probably slated to be a long-relief arm, which gives him very little appeal in fantasy. Read Past Outlooks

Traded to Atlanta
Suarez was acquired by Atlanta from the Angels on Sunday in exchange for right-hander Ian Anderson, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Suarez made 99 appearances for the Angels since making his MLB debut in 2019, but he'll now continue his career in Atlanta. The left-hander started in three of his 22 outings last year and had a 6.02 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 56:27 K:BB over 52.1 innings. He'll likely fill a long-relief role with his new team, assuming he even sticks on the big-league roster.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
2022
Suarez showed plenty of flashes that suggested he can be an effective starter during the 2021 and 2022 campaigns while forging a 3.86 ERA and 188/69 K/BB over 207.1 innings during that time frame. Those flashes were miniscule in 2023 with an 8.29 ERA and 1.96 WHIP over 11 appearances -- seven of those starts -- and also dealing with a shoulder injury. The 26-year-old southpaw has a below-average fastball that rarely gets above 93 mph, and he wasn't able to command that pitch well as seen in a 12.1 percent walk rate along with an 11.2 percent barrel rate. He was able to get hitters to swing and miss at 28.5 percent of his offerings, so there was a smidgen of bad luck in his well below-average 17 percent strikeout mark. Suarez could make starts for the Angels in 2024, but his most likely role for Los Angeles will be a multi-inning relief that provides no fantasy help.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Will get more chances
Angels manager Ron Washington said Saturday the organization believes Suarez is "capable of producing" and is "still planning on running him out there," reports Sam Blum of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander is a strong candidate to be designated for assignment with a 10.13 ERA, 2.12 WHIP and 16:13 K:BB across 16 innings, but the Angels apparently aren't ready to move on. Suarez struggled to an 8.29 ERA over 33.2 innings last season, though he was a solid swingman in 2021 and 2022 with a 3.86 ERA in 45 outings.
