2025 Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Soler inked a three-year, $42 million contract with the Giants last winter but lasted just half a season in San Francisco, getting dealt back to Atlanta - where he won World Series MVP honors in 2021 - at the trade deadline. The 33-year-old mostly underwhelmed during his time with the Giants but had heated up right before the trade and carried that over with Atlanta, collecting an .849 OPS with nine homers over 182 plate appearances. Soler was a full-time designated hitter in San Francisco but played the outfield in Atlanta, which wasn't good for the team's defense but ensured that Soler would have outfield eligibility in fantasy in 2025. He's expected to return to full-time DH duty following another trade over the winter that sent him to the Angels. Read Past Outlooks

Expected to bat near top of lineup
Angels manager Ron Washington said Friday that he expects Soler, Mike Trout and Taylor Ward to be the top three batters in the lineup, though not necessarily in that order, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Soler is no stranger to the top of the lineup, as he was primarily slotted in the first third of the order -- including 41 times he batted leadoff -- during his stints with San Francisco and Atlanta last season. Though he batted just .241 overall over 571 regular-season plate appearances, the veteran slugger reached base at a .338 clip with the help of a career-best 12.1 percent walk rate. It's not yet clear the exact spot Soler will occupy in the Angels' lineup, and Washington added that it's possible one of the three players he mentioned will instead hit cleanup, but Soler could benefit in terms of run-scoring or run-producing opportunities with a place near Trout if the latter can remain healthy.

His first year in Miami was derailed by hip and back injuries, but 2023 saw a return to form for Soler, who authored his best season since the 2019 juiced-ball year. Soler shaved five percentage points off his strikeout rate and blistered the ball to the tune of a 15.0% barrel rate and .532 xSLG, both of which ranked in the top 10 percent of the league. There may be some giveback with the strikeout rate, but Soler is a world class slugger and retains outfield eligibility after making 32 appearances in right field last season (102 starts at designated hitter). While his defensive limitations could confine him to DH full time in short order, Soler should be in the lineup most days for San Francisco after inking a three-year, $42 million deal with the Giants in February. Oracle Park is another spacious park for the 32-year-old, but his power plays anywhere.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Downplays negotiations with Red Sox
Soler said Tuesday he doesn't believe he and the Red Sox were ever close to a contract when negotiating during the offseason, reports Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald.
ANALYSIS
Boston was believed to be in the mix for the veteran slugger, but talks apparently didn't progress too much before he inked a three-year, $42 million contract with the Giants in February. It never seemed like a strong fit, as the Red Sox already have Masataka Yoshida, who is currently on the IL with a thumb strain, on a $90 million deal as their primary designated hitter. Soler has clubbed five homers during the first month of the campaign for San Francisco, though his .219/.314/.400 slash line and 27.3 percent strikeout rate are underwhelming.
