Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Because of Jose Abreu's ineptitude and eventual release, Singleton got a lot more run in the Astros' starting lineup in 2024 than the club probably envisioned. He finished the season with 405 plate appearances, which bested his previous career high from 10(!) years prior by more than 40. Thanks in large part to his 11.6 percent walk rate, Singleton put up an above-average 103 OPS+, although a .386 slugging percentage from a guy with zero defensive value is not what you want. With Christian Walker signed to a three-year contract and Yordan Alvarez expected to spend more time in the designated hitter spot, it's difficult to envision Singleton approaching 400 plate appearances again in 2025. Dropped from 40-man roster
The Astros designated Singleton for assignment Monday.
Analysis
Singleton's stint with the big club lasted just one week, with the 33-year-old first baseman appearing in three contests and going 1-for-9 at the plate. Assuming Singleton clears waivers, he'll have the ability to elect free agency, though his familiarity with the Houston organization could compel him to accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Sugar Land with the hope of earning another look with the big club down the road.

Singleton returned to the majors for the first time since 2015 in 2023, slashing .165/.267/.264 in 105 plate appearances with both Milwaukee and Houston, even securing a spot on the Astros ALDS roster. Though meek in the majors, Singleton impressed across 148 plate appearances in Triple-A Sugar Land where he hit .333/.446/.692 with 12 home runs. It's unlikely that the 32-year-old will become much of a fantasy asset in 2024, but should break camp as a backup first baseman to Jose Abreu and could earn at bats at DH if Yordan Alvarez plays as an outfielder.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Chance to lose roster spot
The Astros are expected to promote Shay Whitcomb from Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, reports Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston, and Singleton could be in danger of being moved off the MLB roster.
Analysis
Singleton has seen his playing time dwindle since Zach Dezenzo was called up in early August, and Whitcomb is now also entering the mix at first base. Singleton has been unable to take hold of the everyday job at the position following the release of Jose Abreu and has a .235/.319/.354 slash line and 27.6 percent strikeout rate in 92 games this season. It's possible the Astros would prefer Dezenzo to get regular reps at Triple-A rather than seeing inconsistent at-bats in the majors, in which case Singleton could stick around the big-league roster a bit longer.
