Needs surgery on injured lat
Bukauskas will undergo surgery on his injured right lat and be sidelined for 9-to-10 months, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Bukauskas pitched in just six big-league games last season due to injuries and appears set to miss the entirety of the 2025 campaign with this lengthy recovery timeline. Bukauskas has been dealing with lat issues, as this is the fourth time he's injured the same one. The hope is that surgery will finally correct the issue for good and Bukauskas can return to full health for the 2026 season.

2018
The Diamondbacks did not give Bukauskas a look at the major-league level in 2020, but they kept a close eye on him at the alternate site. Clearly, Arizona liked what it saw as he was added to the 40-man roster in November for Rule 5 protection. That move always seemed likely as the right-hander is a high-pedigree prospect and was a significant part of the return for Zack Greinke, but it's reassuring nonetheless after Bukauskas battled elbow and wrist issues in late 2019 and early 2020. He has shown a great strikeout punch when healthy with his mid-90s heat and plus slider, but with spotty command and control pointing to a likely future in relief. The Arizona bullpen looks wide open and Bukauskas could immediately be one of the team's better relievers upon arrival, if he's healthy and the stuff is on par with what we've seen from him in the past.

ANALYSIS
After making two appearances for Arizona in the rookie-level complex league, Bukausas pitched Friday for Reno and allowed a hit in a scoreless inning. The 25-year-old is getting closer to returning from the Grade 2 shoulder strain that has kept him out all season. While no official timetable has been given, he's on pace to return before the All-Star break.
