After breaking out as a full-time starter with the White Sox in 2024, Crochet was traded to the Red Sox last winter and established himself as one of the best pitchers in MLB during 2025. He posted an 18-5 record with a 2.59 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 46 walks across 205.1 innings while leading the league with 255 strikeouts. Despite setting a career-high workload by nearly 60 innings, the left-hander still averaged 97.6 mph on his fastball and maintained excellent control, with his 5.7 percent walk rate ranking 10th among qualified starters. Now entering his age-27 season and third year as a full-time starter, it's possible Crochet has yet to reach his ceiling. The streak ended with an eighth-inning single from Volpe, but Crochet stayed on the mound for one more at-bat, striking out Austin Wells to finish a 117-pitch start. If the Red Sox take care of business and eliminate their biggest rival from the postseason, Crochet would be likely to make his next start Sunday in Game 2 of the ALDS against the AL East-champion Blue Jays.

Crochet missed all of 2022 following Tommy John surgery and was limited to just 25 apperances between the majors and minors last season due to a shoulder injury. When healthy, the lefty walked more batters (13) at the big league level last year than he struck out (12), but the sample was limited to only 12.2 innings. He ended the season healthy, but the Crochet's persistent injury woes have made it difficult for the White Sox to settle on his role. Recent reports indicate his workload will be monitored during spring training and Chicago will determine whether to stretch him out to start in 2024, or use him in relief. Fantasy managers have been willing to gamble on Crochet's upside for a few years now, but he has yet to realize his potential. If health prevails in 2024, Crochet could re-emerge on fantasy radars, but expect a high WHIP no matter what role he fills.
