The Reds reassigned Arroyo to minor-league camp Wednesday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The 21-year-old Arroyo is coming off a lost 2024 season following surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, so it's no surprise that he's a relatively early cut by the Reds. Arroyo finished the 2023 campaign at Double-A Chattanooga and is likely headed back there to begin this season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
A better real-life prospect than a fantasy one, Arroyo should be at least an above-average defender at shortstop, and he should hit enough to stay in the lineup for some team, although things are crowded in Cincinnati. The 20-year-old switch hitter slashed .252/.324/.433 with 13 home runs and 29 steals in 123 games, primarily at High-A. He got a brief taste of Double-A to close 2023. Arroyo could potentially turn into an Andres Gimenez type of fantasy contributor, but that's his ceiling. He won't turn 21 until August, and it's possible he spends almost the whole season at Double-A. There's a chance he could tap into 20-homer power if he adds some muscle to his slender 6-foot frame, but his plus speed and potential for everyday playing time are the main drivers of his dynasty appeal.
Arroyo's dynasty value peaked last season right when the Mariners cashed him out in the Luis Castillo trade with the Reds. The switch-hitting shortstop slashed .316/.385/.514 with 13 home runs, 21 steals and a 22.0 K% in his first 87 games at Single-A - numbers that are even more impressive when considering Arroyo was the second-youngest qualified hitter at that level. However, he went on to hit .227 with one home run and a 28.4 K% in 27 games at Single-A with the Reds. His season line of .296/.368/.488 is still excellent, given his age and level, and Arroyo's 32.1 Hard% was a fantastic mark for a quick-twitch shortstop. Arroyo has the type of all-around skill set that could translate to five-category fantasy production, and it's always notable when an 18-year-old dominates at Single-A. He could re-establish himself as a top-50 dynasty prospect if he has success at High-A with his new organization.
