2025 Fantasy Outlook
Martin had a successful recovery from his 2023 Tommy John surgery and made 10 starts for the White Sox once returning to the major league roster at the end of July 2024. Martin, unsurprisingly, did not earn a win in any of his starts, but his 4.37 ERA was the third best of the starting pitchers on the team. His 2024 velocity was nearly all the way back to where it was in 2022, but he also has added a cutter that he did not use when we last saw him in the majors. Martin's cutter and slider are his best pitches, but his four-seamer had a noticeable difference in its batting average (.389) compared to its expected batting average (.275). Martin will be two full years removed from his surgery in early May of 2025, but he will still be pitching for the worst team in baseball, which will once again cut into his ability to get wins. He has enough stuff to get strikeouts, and his pre-injury numbers in the minors show there is some potential upside here. However, the surrounding cast, particularly the bullpen, has to get better for Martin to be anything more than an AL-Only deep-league streamer. Read Past Outlooks

Analysis
Martin's steady campaign continued Monday, as he threw at least five innings in his eighth consecutive start. The right-hander also matched a season high in strikeouts, and he's now tossed at least five frames while yielding two runs or fewer on nine occasions among his 16 outings in 2025. Martin owns a quality 3.87 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 63:26 K:BB over 90.2 frames, and he's next set to take the hill this weekend against the Angels in Anaheim.

Martin underwent Tommy John Surgery in May likely leaving him on the sidelines in his recovery until the middle of the season in 2024. The right hander was given a shot to break camp in 2023 in the rotation, but ultimately was assigned to Triple-A Charlotte making three starts before the surgery to the tune of a 2.81 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 20 strikeouts in 16 innings pitched. Once recovered Davis will likely return to Triple-A where the White Sox can stash him as rotation depth if needed.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Could be needed in rotation
Martin could be thrust into the White Sox' rotation this season, depending on the outcome of the investigation into Mike Clevinger, Vinnie Duber of CHGO reports.
Analysis
Between Clevinger being investigated by MLB due to allegations of domestic violence and child abuse and the durability concerns with Michael Kopech, the White Sox' rotation depth figures to be tested. Martin could be the next man up after he posted a 4.83 ERA and 48:19 K:BB over 63.1 innings covering 14 appearances -- nine starts -- during his rookie season in 2022. Recent waiver claim A.J. Alexy might also wind up playing an important role for the Southsiders.
