Rest-of-Season Projections

Working as opener
Coloumbe will serve as the Twins' opening pitcher Sunday against the Brewers, Audra Martin of Fanduel Sports Network North reports.
Analysis
The left-hander will make the second start of his MLB career and first since 2021. Coulombe has been effective in a high-leverage role this season with two saves, two holds and a 0.46 ERA over 19.2 innings, but he'll given Minnesota an inning or two as an opener Sunday before turning the game over to the bullpen. David Festa was previously penciled in to start Sunday and could follow Coulombe in a bulk role.

Coulombe didn't make Minnesota's Opening Day roster and was subsequently traded to Baltimore, where he quickly established himself as the team's top left-handed reliever. The 34-year-old doesn't throw very hard - he averaged just 91.1 mph on his sinker - but gave up only 2 hits on the pitch all season. Coulombe's wicked breaking balls were effective as well, with all three pitches inducing 30-plus percent whiff rates, including an 86 mph cutter that he threw 42.5% of the time. This led to career-best marks across multiple categories, including strikeouts (58), WHIP (1.11) and holds (21). The southpaw also ranked in the 87th percentile or better in average exit velocity allowed (85.6 mph, 96th percentile), hard-hit percentage (30.4%, 95th) and walk rate (5.6%, 87th). On the heels of a strong season, Coulombe projects as one of Baltimore's top setup men for 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Chance to be moved
According to Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic, the Twins could trade Coulombe ahead of the July 31 deadline.
Analysis
The left-hander inked a one-year, $3 million contract with Minnesota in February after Baltimore declined his $4 million club option for 2025 despite the fact that he posted a 2.12 ERA in 33 appearances during the 2024 regular season. Coulombe has been even better this year with just two earned runs allowed and a 29:7 K:BB across 27.2 innings, so he should generate some interest on the trade market since contending teams are always looking to shore up the bullpen.
