2025 Fantasy Outlook
Taylor's strikeout struggles caught up to him in 2024, as he was limited to just 87 games and 246 plate appearances. A nearly month-long IL stint contributed to his decrease in playing time, but even when healthy he made just 56 starts. Over the past three seasons, Taylor has posted a 33.3% strikeout rate -- the 11th-worst mark among MLB players with at least 500 PAs. Taylor had managed to keep some fantasy value afloat by logging double-digit homers and steals each season from 2021 to 2023, but he sunk to just four long balls and five thefts last year, and his .298 OBP and .098 ISO each represented his lowest mark (by far) in any campaign that he's logged at least 200 PAs. Los Angeles has kept Taylor on its roster due in part to both his previous contributions and his versatility as a super utility player (not to mention his substantial contract, the guaranteed portion of which ends after the 2025 season), but his days as being even an end-of-draft fantasy roster-filler may be behind him. Released by Dodgers
The Dodgers released Taylor on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Los Angeles will skip the DFA process and release the 34-year-old outright to free up roster space for the return of Tommy Edman (ankle) from the 10-day injured list. Taylor had been with the Dodgers since 2016 but couldn't find consistent playing time this season due to his ongoing struggles at the plate (.580 OPS since the start of the 2024 regular season).

In his seventh full season with the Dodgers, Taylor came off the bench more than ever before, starting only 82 of the 117 contests in which he played. Nonetheless, the utility man enjoyed a bit of a bounce-back in comparison to his 2022 campaign, increasing his OPS 69 points to .746 and recording more homers (15) and stolen bases (16) than the year prior despite logging 70 fewer plate appearances. However, Taylor struck out at a massive 32.6 percent rate -- an improvement over 2022, but still 17th-worst among MLB hitters with at least 300 plate appearances. Taylor's value to the Dodgers as a Swiss army knife capable of contributing strong defense all over the field (he played five different positions last year) is undeniable, but his contact issues and the team's depth will likely prevent him from maintaining an everyday spot in the lineup. There's some fantasy appeal due to his eligibility at multiple positions and middling power/speed skill set, though he's best deployed as an end-of-bench asset in leagues that allow daily lineup changes.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Time might be up with Dodgers
Taylor doesn't have a locker in the Dodgers clubhouse ahead of Sunday's game against the Angels, reports David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports.
ANALYSIS
Tommy Edman could return from the injured list Sunday after missing time due to an ankle injury, and it appears Taylor will be the roster casualty. It's a long time coming for the utility man, as Taylor had a .598 OPS in 246 plate appearances last year and has struggled even more through 28 games this year with just seven hits in 35 at-bats. The 34-year-old is making $13 million this year and has a $12 million club option with a $4 million buyout for 2026, so he's likely to pass through waivers unclaimed if designated for assignment.
