Wallach has been a Quad-A player and backup catcher throughout his career, racking up only 165 career plate appearances in the big leagues entering his age-29 season. However, he ended the season as the primary catcher during the Marlins' playoff run. Even in the unlikely event that the Marlins continue to utilize Wallach as their primary backstop, he's shown little punch with his bat. In 165 plate appearances, he's posted only .209/.282/.318 line with a 31.5% strikeout rate. With his hard hit rate and other batted ball metrics also checking in below league average, it's difficult to spot the upside in Wallach's profile. Entering the 2021 campaign, Wallach will have to rely on his defensive value to earn playing time. However his grip on an everyday role appears tenuous, as Jorge Alfaro remains with the club and Sandy Leon was also added to the mix this offseason.
