Contract selected
The Yankees selected Carrasco's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Thanks to a combination of his impressive spring (1.69 ERA, 0.94 WHIP) and a flurry of injuries in New York's pitching staff, Carrasco will land a spot in the Yankees' Opening Day rotation after signing as a camp invitee in February. Although his Grapefruit League numbers were good, the 38-year-old still owns a 6.18 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in the regular season since 2023, so fantasy managers should approach Carrasco with caution. Gerrit Cole (elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Carrasco pitched for Cleveland between 2009-20 and will return for his second stint with the franchise after three years with the Mets. Carrasco put up a 6.80 ERA and 1.70 WHIP through 90 innings across 20 starts last season with the Mets, and his campaign was cut short in September by a fractured finger. Given the strength of Cleveland's rotation, it's unlikely the 36-year-old lands a starting job, but he could operate as a multi-inning reliever for the big-league club if he turns in a solid spring.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Opt-out date approaching
Carrasco can trigger the opt-out in his minor-league contract with the Yankees on Saturday, though Jack Curry of YES Network expects the right-hander to be included in the season-opening rotation.
ANALYSIS
The 37-year-old underwhelmed in Cleveland last year with a 5.64 ERA in 21 regular-season starts, but he has a 2.45 ERA in four spring appearances with the Yankees. Carrasco didn't seem a likely bet to earn a roster spot after inking a minor-league deal in early February, but the New York rotation has been decimated by injuries over the past couple weeks.
