2024 Fantasy Outlook
Carrasco pitched for Cleveland between 2009-20 and will return for his second stint with the franchise after three years with the Mets. Carrasco put up a 6.80 ERA and 1.70 WHIP through 90 innings across 20 starts last season with the Mets, and his campaign was cut short in September by a fractured finger. Given the strength of Cleveland's rotation, it's unlikely the 36-year-old lands a starting job, but he could operate as a multi-inning reliever for the big-league club if he turns in a solid spring. Outrighted to Columbus
Carrasco cleared waivers Friday and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Columbus.
ANALYSIS
After being dropped from Cleveland's 40-man roster Tuesday, Carrasco could have elected for free agency. Instead, the 37-year-old righty will stick with the organization he's spent 12 seasons with and finish the year in Triple-A. His demotion to Columbus acts somewhat as a promotion, as he most recently pitched for Double-A Akron while working his way back from a hip strain.

Carrasco's first season with the Mets in 2021 was a disaster as injuries limited him to 12 starts, and he struggled when available with a 6.04 ERA. The right-hander bounced back last season and picked up 15 wins with a 3.97 ERA and 152:41 K:BB across 152 innings (29 starts). He improved both his strikeout (23.6 percent) and walk rates (6.9 percent), and his 46 percent groundball rate was his best since 2018. Carrasco is entering his age-36 season, and his availability can't be guaranteed given his extensive injury history. However, he remains a strong back-end piece for the Mets' rotation after the team exercised his $14 million club option for 2023.

Could become available?
Carrasco could become a trade chip if the Mets opt to sell at the deadline, writes Jim Bowden of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Carrasco has limped to a 6.19 ERA across 10 starts, striking out a career-low 15.1 percent of opponents. The 36-year-old would likely need a sizable bounce back to accrue any meaningful trade value.
