Cade Marlowe

27-Year-Old OutfielderOF
Seattle Mariners AAA
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Marlowe got his first taste of MLB action in 2023, and he got off to a strong start and was seeing regular playing time in the outfield after Jarred Kelenic broke a bone in his left foot. He struggled mightily to end his campaign with 15 strikeouts in his final 32 at-bats while hitting just .133 over his final dozen games. The contact issues were readily apparent, but there were plenty of flashes that suggest he can play at the highest level, however, as the outfielder showed off upper-echelon speed and walked in 12 percent of his plate appearances. Marlowe profiles more as a bench player with limited fantasy upside, but his speed and potential to get on at a solid clip would make him worthy of a look if he earns regular playing time at some point. How does Cade Marlowe compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Marlowe immediately tests your threshold for buying into old prospects, as he turns 26 in June and hasn't made his big-league debut. The lefty-hitting outfielder had impressive numbers at Double-A and Triple-A: .287/.377/.487 with 23 home runs and 42 steals (on 52 attempts) in 133 games. He was nine months older than the average player at Double-A when he was there and 22 percent better than the average hitter. Marlowe did a significant amount of his damage over an 11-game late-season Texas run through Amarillo (extreme hitter's park) and Midland (bad pitching), where he notched 28 hits in 46 at-bats, including seven home runs, or 30% of his season total. His strikeout rate spiked in 60 plate appearances at Triple-A (38.3 K%). Batted-ball data suggests Marlowe has average or above-average power to go with above-average to plus speed. When factoring in his age and levels, he didn't do enough consistent damage in 2022 to earn buy-in from dynasty league managers. Marlowe will make his big-league debut this season and will be competing with Jarred Kelenic and Taylor Trammell for opportunities.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Joining postseason roster?
OFSeattle Mariners  AAA
October 7, 2022
Marlowe may be added to the Mariners' postseason roster after joining the team's taxi squad, reports Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times.
ANALYSIS
With Jesse Winker likely done for the season with a neck injury and Sam Haggerty out with a groin issue, Marlowe may make his big-league debut in the postseason. The 25-year-old Marlowe posted a .287/.377/.487 slash line with 23 homers and 42 stolen bases in 133 minor-league games between Double-A and Triple-A. All but 13 of those appearances came for Double-A Arkansas. Should he be added to the roster for the AL Wild Card Series, he would likely receive limited action and could be used in a pinch-running capacity.
