22-Year-Old PitcherP
Pittsburgh Pirates AAA
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Chandler, who is on the short list of candidates for best pitching prospect alive, could win a rotation spot this spring after building up to 119.2 innings in his age-21 season. The 6-foot-2 righty boasts an upper-90s fastball (can touch 100 mph) with excellent movement, a hard, biting upper-80s slider (touches 91 mph) and a potentially plus changeup. His 9.4 percent walk rate at Triple-A was his highest mark in the upper levels, but with the challenge system at Triple-A, many pitchers actually threw more strikes after getting promoted to the majors last year, so there's no real concern with Chandler's ability to throw enough strikes to start. He was particularly dominant down the stretch, going between five and seven innings in each of his final eight starts while logging a 1.75 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 61:15 K:BB in 46.1 innings. His redraft price will soar if he has a predictably good spring. Read Past Outlooks

Chandler gave up one hit and two walks while striking out 10 over six scoreless frames Tuesday for Triple-A Indianapolis.
ANALYSIS
Chandler has a 1.95 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 93:19 K:BB in 74 innings across his last 13 starts split between Double-A and Triple-A. The 6-foot-2 righty turns 22 this weekend and is looking like a finished product with a claim as the best pitching prospect in the game.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
A premium athlete who gave up his two-way development last offseason to focus exclusively on pitching, Chandler came on strong to close the year and has one of the best arsenals in the minors. The 6-foot-3 righty had a 3.12 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 77:19 K:BB in 69.1 innings over his final 14 starts and climbed from High-A to Double-A in the process. He only made one start at Double-A, spinning five one-hit innings with eight strikeouts and zero walks. Chandler is a power pitcher with a mid-90s fastball that touches higher and two above-average secondaries in his mid-80s slider and upper-80s changeup. His command should continue to improve with reps, given his athleticism. The Pirates won't rush Chandler in his age-21 season, but if he stays healthy, he could establish himself as one of the game's best pitching prospects.
A two-way freak athlete with a monster fastball and huge power but command issues as a pitcher and strikeout issues as a hitter, Chandler is extremely risky. Most evaluators expect pitching to win out, and his upper-90s fastball with great movement gives him an excellent top offering. The 6-foot-3 righty's changeup is further along than the typical two-way player his age, and his slider has a chance to be an out pitch down the road. He walked 28 in 41.1 innings across complex ball and Single-A, so the strike-throwing needs to take a big step forward in order for him to reach his massive ceiling.

Could make Opening Day roster
PPittsburgh Pirates  AAA
November 27, 2024
Chandler could earn a spot on Pittsburgh's Opening Day roster with a strong performance in spring training, Griffin Floyd of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old is the organization's top prospect and was dominant after receiving a midseason promotion to Triple-A Indianapolis with a 1.83 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 54:15 K:BB over 39.1 innings. Former top prospects Paul Skenes and Jared Jones anchored Pittsburgh's rotation in 2024, and Chandler could soon join them.
