2025 Fantasy Outlook
Harper once again failed to reach the 150 game plateau, having last done so in a full season back in 2019. He has suffered a variety of injuries from requiring Tommy John Surgery to dealing with a left thumb fracture, a left forearm injury, a left hamstring injury, and most recently, wrist inflammation which kept him out most of the month of June. Despite the injuries, Harper remains a five-category producer although the missed time limits how much he excels in any one of those categories. 2025 was more about quantity than quality because Harper did not excel in any one offensive category as much as he had even in 2024. The wrist soreness was no doubt a factor in the decline at the plate, but his approach and discipline remained intact even if his ability to hit the ball as hard as he normally does waned. There is little reason to believe that 2025 is a warning of a slowdown for Harper, because had he remained on the field as much as he did in 2024, he would have likely exceeded that season's production. He remains one of the better options at first base in fantasy baseball as long as you do not yearn for his pre-Covid production levels. Read Past Outlooks
Returning to action Thursday
Harper (illness) will start at first base and bat third Thursday against Miami, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis
Harper missed the Phillies' last two games while fighting off an illness, but he seems to be feeling better heading into Thursday's series finale. The 32-year-old slugger will aim to finish the year strong after posting an .839 OPS across 85 plate appearances since the beginning of September.

We enter a new realm for Harper on draft day as we are forced to consider him as part of the first base pool now as he lost his outfield eligibility last year and with the announced divestiture from Rhys Hoskins, maybe permanently. Harper got off to an expected slow start in the power department coming off his surgery with just five homers through the end of July before he got red hot over the final two months with 16 homers and 41 RBIs capped with a 10 homer August around a .361 average. Once Harper got into his groove, everything fell back into place and he was his normal self as the final numbers show. We can excuse his lowest slugging percentage since 2018 to the post-surgical rust, but everything else looks as good as it ever was. The next hurdle is him resuming his 140+ game workload after two seasons of falling short of that much-needed mark given his lofty annual draft status.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Bothered by trade talk
Harper is bothered by the trade talk surrounding him ahead of the offseason, according Matt Gelb of The Athletic. "I have given my all to Philly from the start," Harper told Gelb. "Now there is trade talk? I made every effort to avoid this. It's all I heard in D.C. with the Nationals. I hated it. It makes me feel uncomfortable."
Analysis
Harper hasn't been traded before, as he left Washington to join the Phillies in free agency. Still, it seems the star first baseman doesn't like the distractions that come with these sorts of rumors, although GM Dave Dombrowski has since clarified that the organization has no intention of trying to move the 33-year-old. Harper highlighted his decision to avoid having an opt-out clause in his deal when he originally signed with Philadelphia, over the objections of his agent Scott Boras, and it doesn't seem like he has any intention of waiving the no-trade clause that came when he gained 10-and-5 rights with the club. Harper hit 261/.357/.487 with 27 home runs across 580 plate appearances in 132 regular-season games in 2025 while dealing with a wrist issue, and he's 37 homers shy of reaching 400 for his career.
