2024 Fantasy Outlook
Joyce's velocity is no secret, but he struggled to control his triple-digit fastball last season. He walked 14 over 15.2 innings at Double-A before the Angels fast-tracked him to the majors with a call up in late May. The 23-year-old logged five appearances with Los Angeles and topped out at 103 mph on the radar gun before experienicing ulnar neuritis in his right elbow. A trip to the injured list was necessary and Joyce missed three months of action. The 6-foot-5 right-hander returned in September to appear in seven more contests, finishing the season with a 5.40 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 10:9 K:BB over 10 innings. He also tacked on one win and four holds with his first taste of big-league, high-leverage action. Joyce has the makings of a future closer and could hold some fantasy value even if he's not getting save chances due to his potential to rack up strikeouts. However, if his control issues persist, he may have trouble ascending the Angels' leverage ladder in 2024. Read Past Outlooks
Done for season
Angels manager Ron Washington confirmed Sunday that Joyce (shoulder) won't return from the 15-day injured list this season, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Joyce's placement on the IL is retroactive to Sept. 7, but the Angels won't rush him back for the final week of the season even though an MRI on his right shoulder returned clean. The hard-throwing right-hander has been diagnosed with an impingement in his right shoulder, but he should be in store for a normal offseason. Barring any high-profile additions to the bullpen this winter, Joyce will likely head into spring training as the favorite to open the 2025 campaign as the Angels' closer. After getting called up from the minors in early June, Joyce produced a 2.08 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 33:14 K:BB over 34.2 innings while collecting two wins and eight holds and going 4-for-4 in save opportunities.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Joyce was a third-round pick by the Angels out of Tennessee, and the right-hander is renowned for a fastball that has been clocked as high as 105 mph. The 22-year-old made 13 appearances for Double-A Rocket City after being drafted, and he recorded a 20:4 K:BB with a 2.08 ERA over 13 innings. Joyce isn't likely to make the Angels out of spring training, but his electric stuff gives him a chance to help before 2023 ends, and he just might be the closer of the future in Los Angeles.
