Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Manoah has endured a miserable past couple seasons after he was a Cy Young finalist in the American League in 2022. His performance cratered in 2023 and he missed most of last season with a right elbow sprain, which required surgery in June. He was able to go the internal brace route instead of traditional Tommy John surgery, but he's still expected to miss a sizable chunk of next season. It's rare that we see a player fall off to this degree after reaching such heights, but the book is not closed on Manoah. He pitched much better in his limited time on the field in 2024 and posted on social media that he began a throwing program in early December. If he stays on track in his recovery, Manoah could factor into the rotation mix for the Blue Jays in the second half. Read Past Outlooks

Builds up to 45 pitches
Manoah (elbow) completed a 45-pitch, three-inning simulated game Saturday and is scheduled to make his third rehab start later this week with Single-A Dunedin, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis
After Manoah made rehab starts with the Blue Jays' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate July 14 and with Dunedin on July 20, Toronto opted to have the right-hander pitch in a controlled setting over the weekend. He was able to build up his pitch count during the sim game and flashed a fastball that topped out at around 95 miles per hour, so Manoah seems to be in a good spot as he works his way back from the internal brace procedure he underwent last June. Manoah will throw a bullpen session Tuesday before making his next start with Dunedin, and if all goes well in that outing, he'll shift his rehab assignment to a higher-level affiliate next week. Manoah appears to be tracking toward a return from the 60-day injured list around mid-to-late August, but the Blue Jays may not have a rotation spot available for him once he's activated.

2020
Last year was an absolute nightmare for Manoah. After compiling a stellar 2.60 ERA and 307:91 K:BB over his first 308.1 major-league innings between 2021-22, the burly right-hander sunk to a 5.87 ERA and 79:59 K:BB across 87.1 innings in 2023 and was even demoted to the minors on two different occasions. He received injections for discomfort in his right arm toward the end of the year, which is about the only thing to point to for how he suddenly lost his fastball and slider command. Manoah, 26, might be the riskiest bet on the board this winter -- pitcher or hitter -- given the wide range of where he'll be selected from draft to draft and the wide range of possible outcomes for his 2024 stat line. We've seen what the fantasy ceiling looks like and how valuable Manoah can be as a front-line starter on a good Blue Jays team, but we also now have an unfortunate taste of his rather frightening floor.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Not expected to be traded
The Blue Jays have been telling inquiring teams that they have no intention of trading Manoah, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
Analysis
Manoah had a disastrous 2023 season that ended with some shoulder issue, and his relationship with the Jays reportedly soured over how some things were handled, leading to trade speculation. However, Morosi says the right-hander's offseason workouts have gone well and Manoah is expected to be part of Toronto's Opening Day rotation. Manoah turned just 26 last month and his fantasy stock could rise if he looks good this spring.
