It's all about the bat with Fien, who has a strong combination of hitting and power potential with a plus arm. The Rangers selected the physical 6-foot-3, 200 pound prep shortstop from California with the 12th overall pick and he played 10 games at Single-A after signing. Fien hits from the right side and possesses plus raw power. There have been conflicting reports since before the draft about how fast Fien is, but at best, he's an above-average runner now who figures to slow down. Most evaluators expect him to move to third base, where his size and offensive potential profile nicely.
