Vargas signed with the Dodgers for $2.08 million last winter as the headliner of their Jan. 15 international signing class. The righty hitter lived up to his billing, slashing .328/.423/.529 with seven home runs, a 14.4 percent walk rate and a 14.9 percent strikeout rate in 48 Dominican Summer League games. He played the majority of his games at shortstop, but the expectation is that the 6-foot-4, 175-pound infielder will eventually end up as a full-time third baseman. Just a fringe-average runner, Vargas doesn't have five-category appeal, but he could still develop into a top-25 prospect. He should split his age-18 season between the Arizona Complex League and Single-A. Read Past Outlooks
