Pittsburgh Pirates A+
2024 Fantasy Outlook
White was a two-sport prep athlete who could have played wide receiver in college, but he signed with Pittsburgh after they gave him a $1.5 million bonus in the 2021 draft. We've known about the raw tools (plus speed, plus raw power) for years, but injuries limited him to 11 total games in rookie ball prior to 2023. He had a strong 105.3 mph 90th percentile exit velocity while slashing .276/.406/.476 with nine home runs and 18 steals in 61 games across the Florida Complex League and Single-A. White's 28.0 K% at Single-A was a bit of a red flag for a 20-year-old hitter at that level. He is a patient hitter who ran a low chase rate (19.8 percent), but his contact rate was poor (63.5 percent), suggesting he was taking really big hacks when he did opt to swing. At 6-foot-3, 212 pounds, White will need to stay on top of his conditioning in order to stick in center field and retain plus speed, but he's got a very high fantasy ceiling if he can keep the strikeout rate below 30 percent.
