Shenton was part of the return the Rays received from Seattle when they shipped Diego Castillo to the club near the 2021 trade deadline. Shenton was an accomplished collegiate hitter at FIU when Seattle drafted him in the 5th round of the 2019 draft and he has hit .290/.395/.534 in over 300 games at the minor league level around a serious hip injury that reduced his time in 2022. Shenton hit 29 homers with 99 RBIs and a .304 average between Double-A and Triple-A earning himself a spot on the 40-man roster this winter. He has power, but a 27% strikeout rate last season and a 30% strikeout rate as a minor league hitter certainly raises some risks about how he handles major league pitching. Cueing the Moneyball image of Brad Pitt pointing at Jonah Hill, Shenton does get on base and hits for power. He may resemble Scott Hatteburg fielding at first as well early on, but his left-handed power could be a factor in AL-Only fantasy leagues in 2024 for reserve-round consideration on draft day.
