2025 Fantasy Outlook
Fortes was one of the trio catchers in Miami who allowed opposing baserunners to run wild against the club. Catchers can only control so much, but the fact Fortes was dealt mid-season provided us with a control group. Fortes threw out 15% of baserunners with the Marlins but upped that rate to 23% after being dealt to the Rays so we get a feeling of how much of that thievery should be blamed on the pitching staff. The rest of Fortes's game behind the plate is very good, and given how much the Rays value defensive skills at catcher, Fortes is going to see a lot more playing time than the natural righty-lefty platoon of he and Hunter Feduccia would lead you to believe to be true. Neither guy is much of a hitter, and defense always wins out with Tampa Bay, so give Fortes 75% of the playing time in this situation barring injury. He is second catcher material in AL-Only leagues and reserve depth in 50-round drafts. Read Past Outlooks
