Valera was first added to the Guardians' 40-man roster back in November 2021 but didn't reach the big leagues until September 2025. Injuries hampered his development, and he had been non-tendered by Cleveland last winter before being re-signed to a minor-league contract. After making his way back from patellar tendon surgery, Valera slashed .255/.346/.457 with three home runs in 28 games with Triple-A Columbus to earn a big-league promotion. The 25-year-old fared well enough down the stretch for the Guardians that he started in right field and batted second in both of their games versus righties in the wild-card series against the Tigers.
