Control woes continue to plague the Giants' top pitching prospect in 2024. Whisenhunt started 25 games for Triple-A Sacramento, registering an impressive 28.4 percent strikeout rate, but he also logged a generous 11.3 percent walk rate. The 24-year-old southpaw throws a 93-mph sinker, cutter, slider and change-up (which is his best pitch). Metrics like BABIP are unreliable in the Pacific Coast League, but the .369 mark Whisenhunt recorded last season is inflated. The lefty will likely open the year back with the River Cats, ostensibly working on throwing strikes. Last year, 63.7 percent of his pitches were strikes, but since the major league average was 64.3 percent, a modest improvement could put him in the mix for a rotation spot with the Giants. Considering only Logan Webb has a reliable track record, Whisenhunt could force the issue. Read Past Outlooks
