Murphy made a promising transition from minor-league starter to major-league reliever in 2023 and was headed for the same role in 2024, but a spring elbow injury altered that plan. The injury turned out to be ligament damage, and the left-hander underwent Tommy John surgery in April. He was activated from the 60-day injured list in November, but it's too soon for him to be considered an option to start the season in what will be a new bullpen mix in 2025.
