Contreras spent time in two organizations (Angles, Pirates) during the 2024 season and added another four during the offseason. The Rangers, Reds and Orioles claimed him off waivers only to jettison him from the 40-man, and now he's with the Yankees. Not much went right last season for the right-handed Contreras, who was once a Top 100 prospect with the Pirates. The former starter transitioned to the bullpen and finished with a 4.35 ERA (5.16 FIP) over 49 appearances (three starts). He induced a lot of ground balls, but hard-hit (43.5 percent), walk (10.4) and whiff (20.9) rates were in the bottom 20th percentile. He has six pitches in his repertoire but mostly throws fastballs and sliders. Contreras entered New York's spring training well down the bullpen depth chart. Read Past Outlooks
