Matz has been trending more and more toward a relief role in recent years, with just two of his 53 appearances last season coming out of the bullpen. He performed quite well, finishing with a 3.05 ERA (3.62 SIERA) and 1.10 WHIP. The Rays deploy their pitching staff in creative ways, however, so don't be surprised to see Matz used in multiple different roles, with starts and saves potentially both on the table at various points.
