Montgomery's first full season in the majors didn't live up to the potential he showcased during his 2024 cup of coffee with the Rays. The 25-year-old's surface stats were lackluster across 46 innings with Tampa Bay, while his 12.9 percent walk rate was 10th-worst among relievers who logged a minimum of 40 innings. However, Montgomery had one of the highest discrepancies between ERA (5.67) and xFIP (3.56) and was unlucky given the expected batting average against his fastball (.266) was more promising than his actual results (.311). The southpaw added velocity on his four-seamer - it averaged 98.7 mph (97th percentile), which was nearly a mile-and-a-half faster than 2024 - while producing the 11th-highest whiff rate for the pitch type at 31.4 percent.
