Petty spent most of the 2025 season in the minors with Triple-A Louisville but made his major-league debut against the Cardinals on April 30. Unfortunately for the 22-year-old, he was rocked for nine runs on seven hits and two walks over just 2.1 innings. He took the loss in each of his major-league appearances in 2025, with June 21 against St. Louis being his last outing with the Reds before being sent back to Triple-A. Petty didn't fare much better in Louisville, and after his last demotion from the majors he posted a horrific 8.87 ERA and 1.88 WHIP over 67.0 minor-league innings while logging a measly 6.7 K/9. There doesn't appear to be a clear pathway to a spot on the Opening Day roster for Petty, though he could be called up to the majors from time to time to provide a spot start when the rotation needs an extra day off.
