Kim began the 2025 season on the injured list with the Rays while recovering from right shoulder surgery. A low back strain put him on the shelf again after 10 games in July and Kim would make a third trip to the IL in August, again due to back trouble, before ending the season in Atlanta as a waiver claim. Overall, Kim slashed just .234/.304/.345 with five homers and six steals in 191 plate appearances between the two stops, his worst showing in the majors since his rookie season with San Diego. Still, Atlanta liked what it saw enough to bring the 30-year-old back on a one-year, $20 million deal to play shortstop for the team in 2026. Durability is a major question mark at this point, but Kim has a few above-average offensive seasons under his belt and reached significant heights as recently as 2023 when he hit 17 homers and stole 38 bases in 152 games.
