2025 Fantasy Outlook
Rortvedt had a below-average offensive season but did so for a club that has grown accustomed to little offensive production from its catchers. Rortvedt, if not for the presence of Yandy Diaz, would have the biggest biceps on the roster, but that has not translated into much power, as he has more than twice as many walks (51) in his career than he does extra base hits (23) in 505 plate appearances. Rortvedt is a ninth-place hitter against right-handed pitching with a noticeable hole on breaking stuff down and in the zone and pretty much anything off-speed. He is at his best hunting for fastballs early in the count, but fouling them off puts him in protect mode where the outcome is usually a strikeout. Defensively, he blocks well, he frames well and he throws well, yet has a poor caught-stealing percentage both because his pitchers are slow-ish to the plate and because he has one of the slowest glove-to-hand exchanges for catchers. His defense should keep him on the big-league roster, but he should be relegated to the No. 2 role after the offseason acquisition of Danny Jansen. Read Past Outlooks
