Kingery has become a cautionary tale for signing players to long-term contracts before they reach the majors. He inked a six-year, $24 million deal with the Phillies prior to his debut in 2018 and was mostly a disaster in Philadelphia, receiving a total of just 143 plate appearances from 2020 to 2021 and none since 2022. Kingery kept plugging away in the minors, though, most recently slashing .268/.316/.488 with 25 home runs and 25 stolen bases at Triple-A Lehigh Valley in 2024. That piqued the interest of the Angels, who traded for Kingery over the offseason and added him to their 40-man roster. Now 30, Kingery is in a good spot to pick up playing time for a club with injury and/or production questions along its infield and in center field.
