2025 Fantasy Outlook
Lopez's 2025 season truly came out of nowhere. Originally drafted by the Giants in the 26th round, he was flipped to the Rays in 2019 for Joe McCarthy. Lopez worked in the Rays system rather successfully at all three levels but struggled in spot startes in 2023 and 2024. Lopez was included with Jeffrey Springs in the trade to acquire Joe Boyle, and Lopez made the most of his new opportunity. He survived pitching in Las Vegas with 3 wins and a 2.67 ERA with 38 strikeouts and just 2 homers in 27 innings of work. That earned him the promotion to Sacramento, where he worked in 21 games and pitched to an AL-Only serviceable 4.08 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 113 strikeouts in 92.2 innings. The weird thing about Lopez was he was much more effective pitching at Sutter Field than he was on the road. He held the opposition to a .212/.297/.358 line with a 2.64 ERA and 1.13 WHIP at home but a .246/.335/.444 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.41 WHIP on the road. Which is more likely in 2026: regression at home or on the road? Either way, he is more useful in AL-Only leagues unless you want to use him as a mixed streamer and somehow figure out this weirdness in his splits. Read Past Outlooks
