Bryan Abreu

Abreu was one of five relief pitchers to record 100-plus strikeouts in 2025, finishing second overall with 105. It was the third straight year he reached the century mark in the category - the longest streak among relievers. The right-hander's 35.5 percent strikeout rate was a top-five mark for his cohort, while his 18.3 swinging strike percentage was a career-best, ranking fourth among relievers with at least 50 innings pitched. In fact, Abreu posted a top-seven whiff percentage, or better, for both his four-seam fastball and slider. The Dominican native was again on pace to finish among the league-leaders in the holds category until an injury to Josh Hader (shoulder) cleared Abreu's pathway to saves. Abreu recorded seven of the Astros' final 11 saves, even powering through a rough patch during his time as Houston's closer. If Hader is unavailable for Opening Day 2026, Abreu will certainly keep the closer chair in Houston warm until he's ready. Read Past Outlooks
