Luis Medina

After flashing some encouraging signs as a rookie, the Athletics hoped Medina could harness his control and show more consistency as a sophomore. Those plans were put on hold after he suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his right knee early in spring training. He began the season on the 60-day IL, then mustered only eight starts before being diagnosed with a right elbow sprain, requiring Tommy John surgery. The best-case scenario is for Medina to return late in the season so he can make a couple of appearances to help overcome the stigma of throwing the ball in anger again, especially since he relies on a 96-mph fastball and high-torque slider. With no chance of helping this season, there is no reason to even stash Medina on a fantasy IL. Read Past Outlooks
