Recommended Pickup

Joe Ross, P, WAS – Ross is back with the Nationals, filling out the rotation while Stephen Strasburg is on the DL again. He joined the team Tuesday and allowed three runs – two earned – on four hits with no walks and four strikeouts in 6.1 innings against the Mets. Ross may only get a couple more starts before Strasburg returns, but he has been nothing but stellar at Double-A (2.81 ERA, 1.13 WHIP in 14 starts), Triple-A (2.19 ERA, 0.89 WHIP in five starts) and with the Nationals (2.70 ERA, 0.94 WHIP) this season. Perhaps the Nationals will consider moving Doug Fister to the bullpen if Ross continues to prove himself. If not, teams with depth on the bench might be content to let the situation play out. Simply put, if Ross continues to be this good he should earn a rotation spot, or injuries could continue to find him with an opportunity. At minimum he can be streamed for now.
