Closer Watch

Mets – Just when it seemed like Jenrry Mejia was well on his way to securing the closer's role, he came into Monday's game with two outs in the eighth and ended up allowing five base runners and a run scored in 1.1 innings. But Vic Black also gave up a run Thursday and Jeurys Familia's given up eight hits and three walks in his last four innings, so Mejia should keep doing the vast majority of the closing until further notice.

Yankees – Dellin Betances got to celebrate his All-Star nod by collecting his first MLB save Monday, a two-inning scoreless effort against Cleveland to give David Robertson the day off. Betances has been unreal, but Robertson's still the man here. He's been pretty darn good himself.

Angels – Joe Smith has been a save machine lately, and he collected another one with a perfect ninth Monday. He's now picked up six saves and a win in his last eight appearances.

Recommended Pickup
David Freese, 3B, LAA – Freese has exploded lately. Over the first six games of July, he's gone 8-for-18 with a pair of homers, only the latest in a hot streak that pushes back into the end of June. He's not a guy who's going to carry your team, but he could help you bridge the gap if, for instance, you own the freshly DL'd Edwin Encarnacion. Freese has in the past shown the ability to hit for solid average with decent pop, though it's been a couple years now since he's done it consistently.

Other Recent Recommendations: Yan Gomes, Jeff Locke, Kolten Wong, Josh Tomlin
