Closer Watch

New York Mets -- Jenrry Mejia seems to have put a recent calf issue behind him by pitching Sunday without incident, but he later disclosed that he is dealing with a hernia and will require surgery after the season. The right-hander believes he can pitch through the injury for the final month and a half, but it might be wise for fantasy owners to handcuff him with Jeurys Familia in the event a setback occurs. Familia was tapped to close out Monday's contest, surrendering a run, but recording four outs en route to his third save of the season.

Recommended Pickup

Rymer Liriano, OF, SD -- The Padres offense has offered little to get excited about this season, but Liriano, the team's newest addition, may provide some intrigue. The 23-year-old lost all of the 2013 to Tommy John surgery, but he's shown little signs of being hampered by the layoff in his return to action this season. He first opened the campaign at Double-A San Antonio, where he slugged 14 homers and swiped 17 bases over 99 games to earn the promotion to Triple-A El Paso. Once there, Liriano didn't maintain his home-run production, but did manage to hit a sizzling .452/.521/.661 over 16 games to force the Padres' hand. At this stage of his development, Liriano's speed appears to be ahead of his power tool, but he's shown flashes of legitimate five-tool talent throughout his minor league career. With Carlos Quentin on the DL and Cameron Maybin serving a suspension, Liriano should have every opportunity to pick up regular at-bats. His considerable upside might be worth the gamble in NL-only and deeper leagues.

Other Recent Recommendations: David Peralta, Derek Jeter, Vance Worley, Denard Span and Colby Lewis
