Closer Watch

Mets – Carlos Torres got a save Monday, but there's nothing to see here – he pitched 2.2 innings, largely with a comfortable lead. Jose Valverde's still the man in Queens, though Gonzalez Germen is becoming interesting as a handcuff.

Braves – Craig Kimbrel's got a sore shoulder, and as a result, David Carpenter earned his first save Monday. It sounds like Kimbrel's injury is minor, but fantasy owners in deeper formats would do well to snatch up Carpenter just in case.

Athletics – Luke Gregerson picked up his second save Monday, pitching a clean inning against the Angels, and he seems to have the inside track on most of the saves for Oakland. Jim Johnson got the win, so if you own both the ex-closer and the speculative new one, you had a banner night. Gregerson's been terrific to start the year, and his track record of consistency indicates he's quite capable of taking this job and running with it.

Recommended Pickup
Devin Mesoraco, C, CIN – Considering his pedigree, job security and start to the year Mesoraco's ownership is stunningly low – especially in ESPN leagues, where he's only 8.7 percent owned. In his first handful of at-bats after missing the first few games of the year with an oblique injury, Mesoraco has gone a cool 7-for-14 with two homers, three doubles and six RBI. Backup Brayan Pena's only going to be used to rest the 25-year-old Pennsylvanian, who may have struggled to a .649 OPS last year, but hit 41 homers (showcasing good batting average and plate discipline) over the course of his last two minor-league seasons.

Other Recent Recommendations: Adeiny Hechavarria, Aaron Harang, Josmil Pinto, Kelly Johnson, Yangervis Solarte

SS: Andrelton Simmons, ATL ($5,675)
