Closer Watch

Texas Rangers – For much of May, manager Jeff Banister's modus operandi included the use of no reliever in any particular role. For Neftali Feliz, that meant his customary closer's gig was shared with Shawn Tolleson. An arm injury sidelined him two weeks ago, however, and Feliz now appears to be facing a lengthy rehab assignment that has been referred to as a "mini-option." Tolleson, meanwhile, has established himself as an excellent option out of the bullpen. In the last 30 days, he has allowed only one earned run and recorded six saves through 14 innings. Until or unless Tolleson begins to struggle, it appears the ninth inning will be his for the foreseeable future, regardless of when Feliz returns.

Recommended Pickup

Cameron Maybin, OF, ATL – When the Braves traded Craig Kimbrel, it was easy to write the move off as the last in a series of transactions indicative of a franchise that had given up. Instead, the team is just 2.5 games back of the Nationals for the NL East lead. That trade has actually paid dividends in the short term this season, as Maybin has posted a .280/.360/.420 line in addition to proving a capable defender in center field. On pace to hit 18 home runs and steal 30 bases, Maybin is also an asset in mixed leagues. Few are buying into the hot start, so he is widely available. At 28, perhaps the former 10th overall pick has finally put it together and can capitalize the rest of the season on the immense talent he has always possessed.
