Closer Watch

Boston Red Sox – Edward Mujica converted his fifth save of the year and second save in a week Thursday, getting through the ninth in just nine pitches. Although he hasn't had many opportunities, he appears to be the closer for Red Sox following the removal of Koji Uehara from the role. Mujica will likely continue in that role for the remainder of the year, but beyond that is a question mark.

Tampa Bay – Grant Balfour recorded his 12th save of the season Friday against the Blue Jays. The outing is especially interesting given that Jake McGee pitched the eighth inning rather than the ninth. Although manager Joe Maddon sometimes likes to use McGee in the eighth if the middle of the order is up, but the middle actually came up in the ninth. McGee probably remains the closer at this point, but owners should monitor the situation the next time a save opportunity approaches.

Recommended Pickup

Jose Ramirez, SS/2B, CLE – Ramirez has upped his numbers since being moved into the second spot in the Indians' order, hitting .318/.360/.421 from the spot heading into Friday night. He has also scored 13 times and produced eight RBI in 107 at-bats from the two-hole, as well as six stolen bases. Ramirez should continue to receive everyday playing time with Asdrubal Cabrera gone to Washington, and if he keeps producing, could keep himself in the lineup for next season as well.

Other Recent Recommendations:Leonys Martin, Tyler Matzek, Joe Panik and Rougned Odor.
