Closer Watch

Chicago Cubs - Prior to the All-Star break, speculation arose that Rafael Soriano would take over the closer role after being recalled in the second half of the season. Instead, Hector Rondon has largely retained the role, and has now converted each of the past six save opportunities. Friday was the latest opportunity, and he worked his way through 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one walk. Barring a major collapse on his part, it appears Rondon will hold onto the role moving forward, with a collection of other relief pitchers available should it be necessary.

Kyle Parker, OF, COL - Following the broken rib injury to Corey Dickerson that sent him back to the disabled list, the presumed scenario in left field involved Drew Stubbs and Brandon Barnes handling most of the duties in his absence. That hasn't been the case, as Parker (who was recalled in a corresponding move) has largely taken over since joining the club. While he didn't show a ton of power (nine home runs in 93 games) or speed (six stolen bases) at Triple-A, he has already collected a home run in just six games and 19 at-bats with the Rockies, and should continue to reap the benefits of Denver's thin air if he can remain in the everyday lineup.
